Mini Encyclopedia Now Launched For Ponds
The popular Mini Encyclopedia series of books from Interpet Publishing is continuing to expand with the addition of Mini Encyclopedia of Ponds, by Linda Adkins. Launched to co-inside with the start of the pond season, this title joins seven others in the series all offering valuable expert information in a modern format. Mini Encyclopedia of Ponds explains how to plan, construct and maintain a vibrant water feature. The new book will encourage readers to get digging and create a new feature which will not only look good, but also encourage new kinds of wildlife to their garden.

The Mini Encyclopedia books are small but chunky with 208 pages and 500 colour photographs. The books measure 185mm x 157mm, are paper backed and have a real contemporary look. The first few chapters of Mini Encyclopedia of Ponds cover styles of ponds, planning and building a pond. An ‘Additional features’ section talks about fountains, spouting and pouring features, centrepieces, waterfalls and cascades, streams and decorative filter beds. Fabulous pictures are used to inspire the reader and diagrams help to explain construction methods.

A ‘Just add water’ section of Mini Encyclopedia of Ponds contains valuable information on water chemistry, water quality, filtration, water testing and other pond equipment such as lighting and surface skimmers. Further paragraphs of the new book cover plants and aquatic life. The last section of the book is made up of directories which list commonly seen creatures, popular plants and pond fish. The comprehensive directory gives common names and official names, descriptions and sizes where applicable and includes many images. Plants are split to ‘marginal’, ‘floating’ and ‘deep water’ varieties. The fish directory includes description, pictures, size, habits, feeding and lifespan.

The author of Mini Encyclopedia of Ponds Linda Adkins is a senior staff member at a well known aquatic outlet and a lifelong practitioner and enthusiast of pond and pond life. She recently wrote the ground breaking Keeping Axolotls for Interpet Publishing.
