Interpet Re-launch The Manual of Fish Health
Interpet Publishing has re-launched a book in the aquatics sector for which the company is a well known and respected authority. The Manual of Fish Health is specifically for the aquatic trade focusing on ill health, pests and disease. The format is clear and up to date with impressive use of visuals. This re-launched book deals with recognising and coping with pests and diseases in all types of fish including freshwater, tropical, marine, temperate pond and aquarium.
The Manual of Fish Health is written by Dr Chris Andrews, Adrian Exell and Dr Neville Carrington with contribution from Peter Burgess and Peter W. Scott (Veterinary Advisor to Ornamental Fish International). Collectively these contributors are highly qualified and knowledgeable in zoology, fish studies, fisheries, designing aquarium products, treatments and hardware, pharmacy, ornamental fish microbiology and fish biology.

Seven chapters make up The Manual of Fish Health, starting with ‘The Balance of Health’, ‘Living in Water’ and ‘Understanding Chemistry’, moving on to ‘Planning for Health’ and ‘Recognizing Ill-health’. The fore chapters help readers understand fish anatomy to provide the best possible environment for health and well being.

The major emphasis in The Manual of Fish Health is the ‘A-Z of Common Pests and Diseases’ which is more than impressive covering all kinds of fish. Each condition is covered with a double page spread giving the cause, obvious symptoms/signs, occurrence of the problem, treatment and control. Pictures, diagrams and microscopic slide images are all used to explain in detail how to identify and treat each condition. Parasites, fungi, developmental problems, bacterial infections and viruses are comprehensively covered in the disease section to make a brilliant reference for hobbyists. The final chapter in The Manual of Fish Health ‘A Guide to Treatment’ examines more closely the varieties of chemicals and drugs that are available to treat conditions that have been described in the book.

The Manual of Fish Health gives readers an excellent basic knowledge of fish keeping followed by an in-depth reference for health issues. The book is a paperback 240 x 165mm with 208 pages and 300 colour photographs with an RRP of £12.99. The book was first launched by Interpet Publishing in 2002, but is now updated with new images and totally up-to-date information.

With healthy fish rewarding us by displaying their best colours and most natural behaviour, The Manual of Fish Health, fully updated version, is an essential contribution to the fascinating hobby of fish keeping.
