 Brookside Nursery & Garden Centre in East Peckham near Tonbridge in Kent has set the highest standard with its refitted aquatic department. The new centre looks fantastic, works brilliantly and most importantly is great for business. Now totally completed and up and running, positive feedback is coming in thick and fast from customers and others working in the industry. Garden centre owner Terry Shead spoke to several store fitters about the proposed re-fit. Although CASCO was not the cheapest, Terry could see the company had the most to offer, so the deal was finalised and the process begun. A few short months later Brookside Nursery & Garden Centre has the serious WOW factor and nobody can deny that! Brookside has been a family owned business for over 40-years. The aquatic fittings were 20-years old and in need of updating. Terry visited the CASCO show room during the planning process where he saw a white colour scheme and decided on the same off set with a blue rubber floor. This was an excellent choice and the colour scheme produced a dramatic effect in his store. After discussions with the CASCO team, drawings of the proposed layout were turned into 3D images for final approval and then it was all systems go. Terry explained, “The work took about 3-weeks, but we didn’t have to close the section during that time. As some tanks were dismantled others were installed to replace them. It was quick and efficient, with little disruption. The meticulous planning minimised disruption to the business”. Brookside Nursery has a total covered area of 26,000 sq feet including an aquatic section of approx 1000 sq feet. For around £30,000 CASCO supplied and installed 14 AquaWave racks (with illuminated header panels) in various configurations including a Siamese fighter unit and bagging unit with sink. Units where fitted along two sides of the space to house tropical, coldwater and marine fish. The TV screen option was installed in one of the tanks to show promotional material and fish images. A freestanding two tier Wave plant displays was also installed complete with lighting. The new system has separate filtration in each bank of tanks making it easy to control and maintain. Three people clean all filters in less than half an hour. Asked about his dealing with CASCO, Terry said, “The fitters could not have been more polite, clean and tidy and I could not of wished for a smoother installation process”. He added, “The section looks amazing and I am now thinking of updating the pet department fixtures too”. Brookside is already seeing an upturn in business since the re-fit, despite a period of bad weather. Aquatic enthusiasts as well as non-aquatic enthusiasts cannot help being amazed by the new aquatic centre. The visual impact has been dramatic making the section a showpiece for the whole centre. Word is getting around and new customers arrive daily. The centre is planning an official open day in the spring including advertising, promotions and raffles capitalising further on the investment. Andy Cripps the Aquatic Section Manager, who has been working for the company for 14-years, is reported to have his moral lifted since the re-fit and to have found a fresh spring in his step! The company’s work ranges from installing a small bank of tanks, right though to planning and building a fully fitted 25,000 sq foot retail area.
